The Sentinel

Solens Badlands, Pencil Sector EL-Y d5 A 5 - 3306-06-11 21:17 Galactic Standard Time George Smith quickly turned off all non essential systems in his Magnus Transporting Longhaul truck starting with the headlights and interior cabin lights. In the distance he could see the pale blue lights floating in the dark. They weren't coming directly towards him, but the were heading in his general direction. His heart hammered in his chest. He hoped whatever was generating the strange blue glow would not notice his truck parked beside the wreckage of Yoonie's. He hoped that they would pass him by. He lost sight of the lights. All was quiet, apart from the rhythmic beeping from the autodoc that he had hooked up to Yoonie in the sleeping berth at the back of the truck cabin. For twenty minutes George sat quietly staring into the into the dark, barely daring to breath. He was starting to think that he should just start driving when he heard a droning noise nearby, getting closer. The roc...

The Docks

Wilson Port, Tewanta - 3306-06-18 14:35 Daisy McGrath checked the coolant level of the volatile cargo temporary storage system on pad seventeen and swore under her breath. "Hey John, come 'ere!", she bellowed to her shift partner. John walked over with a perplexed and nervous expression on his face. Normally Daisy was pretty chilled and relaxed, but now she looked angry. Which meant that someone, probably him, had done something dangerously stupid. "The coolant levels on the volatiles storage system are low. You need to keep an eye on them, especially these days, with all the tritium passing through here." John checked his hand terminal. "They are at the bottom of the tolerances, but that should be okay. We have run the system at this level before. Lower even. It never caused any problems so far" "Until the day it does cause a problem and the we..." "... have a hydrogen fuel fire on the docks.", John finished wearily. ...

The Terraformers

Pencil Sector EL-Y d5 A 5 - 3306-06-11 14:26 Galactic Standard Time George Smith slapped the power coupling into place on pump fourteen of the atmospheric processor and pushed the big enter key on the diagnostic terminal. He was on a narrow platform forty meters above the ground, wearing a full environment suit making the last of the repairs on the expensive piece of machinery. It was one of his routine tasks, in his current job. The other jobs he had to do was unload supply ships and deliver consumables to the various automated terraforming machinery in his region, which covered an area approximately 120km from his new home, Kaplan's Landing. The diagnostic terminal displayed a big green 'OK' after about a minute and George replaced the panel and packed up his things. He carefully climbed down the ladder from the platform and got into the Scarab SRV parked at the bottom. The manual stated that this sort of maintenance ...
