Data Brokers: Prologue - The Courier

Panshin's Inheritance, HIP 75862 5 D - 3307-11-27 16:44 GST Clara Smith took a long drink from her beer as she listened to Mike Kerber and tried to act calm and collected. She was a little intimidated. Mike was an enforcer for Mob of HIP 75862 and he had a job for her. A quick courier run. It would square away her debt with them and then she'd owe nothing to anyone. She'd have her pilots federation license, an old, but lovingly repaired Sidewinder, and enough credits to cover her costs for a few weeks. It was her dream for all her life. It was her father's dream before he died. Soon she would achieve it, and the galaxy would be hers to explore. The downside was she had to do this job, and it was sounding sketchy. "So all I need to do is go to Prytula Botanical Range and pick up a package and bring it back here?", Clara asked. "Yeah! Take your Sidewinder to Prytula Botanical Range, talk...

Rogues: The Killers

Drunken Fish Civilian Installation, LTT 14976 - 3307-07-27 08:58 GST David Matano walked into the Drunken Fish bar and looked around as he approached the bar itself. The establishment was empty aside from the barman, Antonio, which wasn't that unusual given the time. David was uneasy, though, as he was there to meet Ramesh Kattimani at 09:00, and Ramesh was never late in all the times David had worked with him. He was normally very reliable, a rare trait for a thief and pirate. The two had pulled off a number heists together over the past few years and the old goat always held up his end of things. It helped that he flew an A-rated Vulture, but the old man's skill wasn't lacking either. He didn't have David's reflexes, but had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. David braced his lanky 190cm frame onto a stool in front of the injection taps and ordered coffee and some empanadas. While he waite...

Rogues: The Revolutionary

New Growth, Pencil Sector EL-Y d5 - 3307-07-22 22:07 GST Park Yoon Guo stood in a storage closet watching the screen of his hand terminal waiting for the opportunity to commit murder. The closet was tiny, barely bigger than an escape pod, and the only light was the pale green glow from his hand terminal. It showed a low resolution video feed from a micro camera stuck to the wall of the corridor outside. The screen also had scrolling text feeds of station alerts, environmental logs, and door access logs, filtered for the area of the station nearby. The patterns in the logs indicated that someone was approaching. Soon he would spring his trap. His target was Dr. Mike Guerin, a middle aged biochemistry researcher who worked for Seven Stages Movement and a monster. The researcher had been developing a bioweapon at Savchenko Nutrition Nursery, and was known to have fascist leaning politics. It was rumoured that he had used some of poor ...

The Escape

Betancourt Base, Musca Dark Region PJ-P b6-1 - 3307-05-13 06:53 GST Jennifer Ng awoke in a large bed, beneath a duvet. A gentle quarter g of gravity kept her on the bed and the duvet on top of her. The room was dimly illuminated by night-lights beside the suite's main door and the door the toilet and shower area. Beside her in the bed lay John Patrick Rogers, JP to friends, snoring. He was a long haul cargo pilot that she had met the previous evening. She gazed at his broad back and smiled remembering the previous night's conversations and exertions. In the dim light she could almost make out the greying hairs on his back and shoulders. Despite being nearly twenty years older than her, he was able to keep up with her. She was impressed. Neither of them were under any illusion that this was a long term relationship, but she hoped that there paths would cross again in the not too distant future. That wasn't entirely unlik...
