As you are aware, the end of this finance period is approaching. Your facility is making great progress towards its goals for this period. With a little more effort it is possible that you will all hit the stretch goals for this financial year. This is an amazing opportunity for the company and you all personally. I have been authorized to inform you that the bonus payment for hitting the stretch goals will be 47% of annual salary. The company has authorized overtime work. While overtime is not compulsory, it is strongly encouraged. You wouldn't want to be the person responsible for your coworkers missing out their bonus, would you?

It has come to my attention that the workplace in Varela Research Centre is not meeting tidiness standards. People are leaving materials lying around their work area rather than securing them in the company provided lockers. I realize that people are tired, due to all the overtime, and are trying to minimize trips to lockers to improve efficiency. However, that is no excuse for lowering standards. Materials need to be secured lockers in order to prevent theft by visitors, etc. For those unaware of their responsibilities, please refer to the Tidy Workplace Policy, which can be downloaded from the settlement's network via one of the data access points.

We had an issue with uploading an inspirational video from the VP of Research to the Varela Research Centre network yesterday. It turns out that the local network data storage was completely filled with cat media; 15 TB in total. While I am sympathetic to people wishing to relax and enjoy a funny or cute video in their personal time, I think we can all agree that this amount of entertainment media is a little excessive. Therefore, I have been asked to inform you that the company is imposing a cap of 3 TB for entertainment media, from now on. There will be a meeting tomorrow morning to allow people to pick the 20% of the media that should be kept. I would also ask everyone to review the Proper use of IT Resources training video, which will be uploaded to the network as soon as space has been made available.

As you may have heard, your settlement's Security Chief, Mike Haggart suffered a workplace accident yesterday. He stepped on a packet of chemical superbase, which ruptured, and the contents sprayed over his left leg. Thankfully, his combat armour prevented this very dangerous chemical from making direct contact with his leg. However, the intense heat generated by the superbase reacting with his armour caused third degree burns on his left foot and lower leg. He has been transferred to a corporate medical center in Mills Settlement, where he is expected to make a full recovery in a few weeks. In the meantime, Administrator Gerry Smith will take on his administrative duties. An incident investigation will take place after the finance period has closed, to see if there are any areas where workplace safety can be improved.
I would like to remind everyone, again, of the Tidy Workplace policy. Had this been followed diligently, it is likely that the accident would not have occurred.

Administrator Gerry Smith has requested that you all be particularly vigilant and to put a special effort into maintaining a high security posture. A number of suspicious individuals have been spotted near the settlement recently. In particular, be on the lookout for a man wearing an oversized scarf, who is often accompanied by a woman flying a camera drone. Should these people be spotted, raise the alarm with settlement security immediately. It is unclear what these people want, but they are suspected of being agents for the newly arrived faction in the system, The Buurian Protectorate.

I would like to remind you that settlement defence plans should not be uploaded to the data access point in the HAB building. This data access point is not cleared for such sensitive data. While I applaud your initiative in studying the defense plans in your off hours, uploading such sensitive data to low security access points puts the settlement at risk! Please refer to the operations manual for details of the Information Security Classification policy.

The funeral service for Anne Souther will take place this afternoon at 15:00 GST. The company has agreed to grant you the afternoon off to attend the service should you wish to. The company is also offering a 90% discount on psychological counselling, should any of you feel you need it.
Anne was killed yesterday evening by a shot from a plasma rifle fired at close range, as she responded to an alarm, triggered by an unauthorized download of settlement defense plans. Her killer fled the scene, but rest assured that Corporate Security and System Security forces are doing everything in their power to bring her killer to justice.
Please be careful when dealing with intruders. Do not try and be a hero and tackle the miscreant alone: wait for backup and don't take risks. This applies double for researchers. Wait for the security team and follow their directions during an incident. They are trained for this, you are not.

I want to let you know of recent developments regarding politics in the system. Recently, thirteen carrier class megaships have arrived in the system. At least eleven of these are associated with The Buurian Protectorate. Rest assured that Corporate Security are evaluating the threat that these megaships pose and are developing counter measures. Our corporation is well equipped to deal with any threat these ships may pose. We are well financed and have highly trained System Security forces.
I would like to reassure you that the threat to you is minimal. The megaships have arrived near the primary star and there are 100 kLs between you and them. If you were a target, then a megaship would have arrived in orbit near the secondary star. The best thing you can do, is to maintain your focus on your work. The financial period ends in 12 days, and you are well on track to hit your stretch goals.

We are at war with The Buurian Protectorate. All staff are ordered to secure any sensitive research material and prepare for evacuation. Ships shall be arriving within an hour, to retrieve you and take you to Mills Settlement. Please ensure that you are ready for pick up. It is unsure if there will be another opportunity for evacuation at a later time.
Corporate security have given assurances that the enemy will be beaten back in the next few days. However, in the meantime, it best to not risk our most important asset, our employees. Combat personnel will be assigned to strike teams at Mills Settlement to defend our settlements in the coming war.
